JASMINE POOLE & CHRISTOPHER SEWELL

Jasmine Poole and Christopher Sewell first started collaborating together in 2018 on instagram project Suburban Kingdoms. From this shared interest in storytelling, design and preservation they began to develop these underlying themes into collaborating on Photomedia based works. 

Jasmine Poole is a multidisciplinary artist and photographer based in Sydney, Australia. Poole studied at the St George School of Fine Art and later at COFA University of New South Wales where she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Photomedia) with Distinction. Her practice predominantly explores the act of story telling and the sociology of space and objects. Her works have been selected for inclusion in prizes including The Moran, Olive Cotton, Sydney Life and Fishers Ghost. Most recently she was awarded The Head On NSW Photographic Landscape Prize which has been acquired as part of the permanent collection at Parliament NSW. Chris Sewell is an art director originally from the UK but now based in Sydney, Australia. His practice is based in fashion photography and art direction. Sewell studied at Leeds College of Art and Design where he received a BA (Hons) of Visual Communications. He started his career as a textile print designer with Paul Smith in London. During his time at Paul Smith he worked on numerous special projects with highlights including Paul Smith Project 10 which was exhibited at the London Design Museum. His work has taken him to the other side of the globe where he now creatively directs for one of Australia's leading fashion brands. To see more of his work please visit his instagram here

I Have Something To Tell You (2020)

The moment just before or after a shift in one’s life. Be it big or small, an event that ultimately alters the course of a day, a year, an entire existence. we are living through a period of change in the world as we know it. This series acts as both a reflection of our current times and an exploration into the intimate diary of the everyday.

Botanical Impossibilites (2018)

Throughout history flowers accompany us through major events in life, be it birthdays, celebrations, illness and eventually in death. Taking on visual and symbolic queues from Dutch Vanitas paintings, ‘Botanical Impossibilities’ explores both the symbolism behind objects and the act of preserving them. 

There’s Still Life Pt.1 (2018)

The series ‘There’s Still Life’ explores the act of preserving objects that have been donated or discarded by their previous owners. It pieces together fragments of others lives and projects onto them a new imagined narrative and purpose.

The series ‘There’s Still Life’ explores the act of preserving objects that have been donated or discarded by their previous owners. It pieces together fragments of others lives and projects onto them a new imagined narrative and purpose.

All the places (2019)

Whilst not collaborative works ‘All the Places’ shares a common thread linked by the humble souvenir spoon. 

There’s Still Life Pt.3 (2019)

An extension of There’s Still Life Pt1 and Pt.2, these works delve deeper into storytelling and portraiture with the act of remembrance being key.

Suburban Kingdoms (2018)

Born from a half hearted attempt at house hunting and an appreciation of design the instagram project @suburban_kingdoms acts as a way to preserve an Australian Suburbia that is quickly disappearing.
